Smithfield Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting Review

This month, February 2024, the Smithfield Chamber of Commerce was hosted by Darrel Simmons and Alpine Cleaning and Restoration with lunch provided by Cache Valley Bank.  We discussed many issues with our member businesses.  Here’s what we looked at.

Smithfield Lions Club

Deon Hunsaker spoke with us about their January project of cleaning and testing eyeglasses.  For upcoming projects, they are doing a blood drive on February 19.  On April 27, they will be participating in the Smithfield Day of Service, where they will partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build beds.  There will also be the Blue Sox concessions that month.  They want everyone to know that they are always looking for new members.

Alpine Cleaning and Restoration

Wayne Moore of Alpine Cleaning wants everyone to be aware that winter is when house fires are most common and we should take extra steps to be careful when heating our homes.  Be a good neighbor and watch for issues and be sure to review your insurance coverage to make sure you’re in good shape.  If anything goes wrong, they can help restore your home; they also do flood and storm damage restoration, and mold cleanup.

Cache County School Board

Kathy Christiansen told us that thanks to everyone’s support, the bond passed.  Now, two new middle schools will be starting up, which will hopefully improve the school experiences for students and teachers alike.  Some special accommodations are being made for the sake of their local neighbors.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact her.

Easy Breezy Pros

The chamber can also send out information about new businesses

Whole Body Health Care

Zach Manwaring and his new intern, Tyler Noell, brought up what they’ve been seeing at Whole Body Health Care.  Thanks to the colder weather of the last few months, there’s been a lot of aches and pains from shoveling snow and ice, not to mention falls.  As the weather warms up, they expect to see injuries from running, as well.  For any back pain issues, they’re on call to help.

Other Announcements

  1. For membership dues, we now have window clings available.  If you need to update your email, let us know.
  2.   We plan to do two newsletters this spring to announce events.  One in March for the Easter Egg Hunt, and one in April for the Golf Tournament and Pancake Breakfast.  You can put an ad in this newsletter for $100, which ill include a flier and mention on our social media page.  We have a list of those who aren’t signed up for the digital communications and we might be able to continue print copies, but the cost is becoming prohibitive for a service that doesn’t see a lot of participation.  We can offer posters for businesses, including digital copies, and electric bilboard ads on Alpine and Preston Watts.  Look for the Easter Egg Hunt the first week of march at our next meeting.
  3. The Easter Egg Hunt will be March 30th.  Let Nicole know how many eggs you would like to have stuffed.  If you can’t remember how many you did last year, we have that information.  We provide the eggs and the Smithfield Youth Council stuffs them.  If you cannot be there to hand out the prize we can put coupons in the eggs.
  4. The Tri-School Golf Tournament is May 8th.  The letter will be going out to the schools.  If you are a Chamber Member and want to sponsor a hole there is no fee and we have a list of available holes if you would like to sponsor a hole.  All our proceeds go towards the three elementary schools – they will use them for various projects.  We also supplement our scholarship program.
  5. For the Health Days Pancake Breakfast on May 11, we need all the help we can get.  It will be 8-9:30 and will not conflict with the race this year.  Proceeds from this go towards our scholarship program.  If you’d like to help out, let us know.
  6. Kim and Jim Tippetts were at our meeting and announced that they are going to be leaving for Africa to serve an LDS mission in the Africa South Area; they leave May 6th.  They will be covering 16 countries to help with education and technology needs for members in the areas.  We wish them all the best and will miss their contributions to our community.
